Facet fuel pump for J400

Postby paulhorth » Thu Jun 30, 2016 11:05 am

My electric fuel pump is sounding a bit rough and I intend to replace it when fitting a new CAMit CAE 3300 core engine.
Should I use the Facet 40104 (2-4psi 25usg/hr) or 40105 (2.5-4.5 psi 30usg/hr)?
Cheers
Paul

As you have wing tanks and gravity does most of the work, a 40104 would be more than adequate for your aircraft. 40105 has a higher rating. However, do you really need it considering that the bing needle valve is pretty much at its operating limit at around 5 psi?

Thanks Diablo, I eventually discovered that the original was a Facet 40104, so I have sourced one on eBay for £36 including fittings.
The pump is fitted as original equipment and we only use it during take off and below 1000ft as a back up should the mech pump fail.
When we had the Jabiru 3300 with lean burn kit it's use also richened the mixture, which was useful during high power settings.
We recently tested the flow and got only 25 Ltr/hr gravity feed with nearly full tanks and a fuel flow sensor (paddle) fitted, which is not is not very good.
Without the sensor it was 47 Ltr/hr and the electric pump gave 66 Ltr/hr. The mech pump provided an excess flow of 29 Ltr/hr maintaining 3psi at 1200rpm.
(LAA require a minimum excess of 25% of the max fuel consumption).
Cheers
Paul
