Not sure how your one is setup as they are all slightly different but take the seatbelts off as the top bolt usually interferes with the tank. On mine, it makes it a lot easier. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be a tried and tested method. It's purely twist, turn, swear, twist, turn swear.

thanks steevo, yes it required quite a lot of the latter but it did pop out eventually with an extra pair of hands.
