Starter motor

I have a J 400 with a BOSCH type starter motor. The Bendix clutch is slipping and it needs a new drive gear. Skycraft offer the Bendix unit at about GBP250.
I sent my Bendix away to a starter reconditioner but he is flumoxed and can not find any compatible parts to fit.
Can anybody tell me what the early Bosch starters were originally fitted to. Before you say Toyota Corrola 1.6 that is not correct as that is a pre engage unit not a Bendix type.
I hope to be at the Leicester meeting if I can get the starter working.
Best regards to all.

I took delivery of a Skycraft clutch and bendix unit today. I had to buy one as I have to be at Kirkbride for a Permit inspection on Sunday.
However I am sending my old unit away to be reconditioned so I will keep you posted on that as then I will have one available should anyone want one.
Interestingly the new Skycraft unit is not the same as the old unit, machined lead in on the drive gear.

Brian
How did you get on with the reconditioning of the bendix?

I got a replacement clutch from Jabiru Germany for the equivalent of GBP 160. The German dealer is invariably cheaper than Skycraft

Hello Robb.
That is good news. After a long wait the reconditioner in this country has now told me he can not do the job as he needs 50 units to make it worthwhile.
Does the German dealer speak English?
