3300 rocker arm hold down bolt

Postby jabiru3300/1806 » Sun Jul 03, 2016 1:33 pm

Does anyone know for sure what size bolt the rocker arm hold down bolt in the head of a 3300 is? Also the torque value?

Yes that is correct. How many inch pounds of torque would you use on it?

On a fastener that is clamping two bits together I would go for the recommended 8ft/lbs.

As this particular fastener is acting like a stop bolt (interfering with a shaft that has a grove cut into it so as to stop it sliding out) so only has a very small shearing force acting on it (no real load) I would torque to 6 ft/lbs.

IMHO that would be plenty HOWEVER that is me and that is my opinion and my engine I would be doing that on. As you would be doing it on your engine, you would have to make that call and it would be up to you what you would torque to and whether to go for the recommended 8ft/lbs. Saying all of that, it is very unlikely that this bolt would cause any probs as it is almost impossible for it to come out due to the rocker cover stopping it from fully loosening of to the point where there is no thread biting.
