Can anyone recommend a reliable leak down tester that works well with a Jabiru and is easily available in the UK
Many thanks

Are you looking for a compression tester? Search that term and you'll find plenty available.

Here is one of the ones that I have. I also have the more expensive version of this but it is no better.

I also use the extension, it makes life much easier.

You want the 12mm adapters for Rotax (they also fit the Jab)

Steevo
Many thanks for the recommendation. That looks like it will do the job.
I actually like using a compression tester on a fast crank or hand turn to see if all the cylinders are Ok (They are!) but I suspect that a leak down will give me a better indication of long term trends.

Peter,

You are more than welcome to fly in to either Willingale or North Weald and do a leak down test right there.

Many thanks for the offer but I did the test today to get out of the rain!
The results on a new generation 4 engine, after 64 hours, where between 76 and 78 over 80 so quite encouraging.
This maybe the best the figures will ever be as the rings etc al will have bedded in but no time for anything to go wrong.

Those are top compressions, mine are 76 on all 4 with 120 hours on the engine. When my last Jab engine had a full top end overhaul with rehoned barrels, new pistons and rings, the compressions were between 76 and 77 on all 4 after 25 hours. They then stayed at that and the last ever test done on it, they were still 76 on all 4. Around about 76-77 or there abouts is the best you will ever get.

It is almost an impossibility to get 80 as anything which has to move will never hold 100% of the air. If it ever did read 80/80, I would suspect faulty test equipment.
