Door Catch

Postby mikew » Fri Jan 11, 2019 4:07 pm

Hi, my aircraft has a pin in the top of each door to stop it flexing out when flown.

Is this a normal fix and if so is there a better alternative? The pin is difficult to locate each time and asking a passenger to do this doesn't inspire confidence.

Thanks
Mike

I think it is standard fare on the Jabi’s. You get used to it and quickly learn to use both hands to close the door and eventually almost don’t notice it.
As a rule l always close the passenger’s door from the outside. That way l know it is secure.

Thanks, I guessed that it's probably become a standard fix, the normal door catches close fine but the pin that needs to be inserted in the top of the door seems to be crying out for a better solution, just thought someone may have found it.

Door upper fixture.

One the J430 there is a different system. It is a bent bit of metal at the top of the door. It needs the door to drop very slightly on closing but that is not a problem. You need a bit of fettling to get it perfect but once adjusted correctly it works without perfectly.
I don't see why it would not work on other models. Picture attached (with luck)

Thanks Peter, looks like its worth trying it out. Does the bracket just fit under the door frame as you close the door?

When you close the door you need to press down slightly on the handle end of the door to stop the clip catching on the door frame. When the door is in the closed position you remove any downward pressure and the catch naturally clips over the top of the door aperture and the main door catch can slide into its socket. This sounds cumbersome but can be done in one fluid movement.
